Cooking Courses in Italy Longer Than a Month

Long cooking courses in Italy, from five weeks to a full academic year, are where people go to change career or to spend a season living in Italy. Most are run by culinary schools for international students: a block of classes in the school kitchen, often followed by an internship in an Italian restaurant, sometimes with lodging included.

What to know

Non-EU students who stay longer than 90 days in the Schengen area need a national (type D) study visa, applied for at an Italian consulate before travel; schools that run long courses usually issue the enrolment letter you need. The cards show length, what is included and a price per day.

How to choose

  • Check whether the internship is part of the price, how long it is and whether it is paid.
  • Ask the school for the visa enrolment letter if you will stay over 90 days.
  • Work out the total: tuition, lodging, food and travel for the whole stay.
  • Compare the certificate and who recognises it.

Cooking Courses in Italy Longer Than a Month: questions

How much do cooking courses in italy longer than a month cost?

Across 11 courses with a published per-person price, the range is €5,000 to €30,200, with a median of €12,500. The lowest is Professional Baking Course at Congusto Institute (€5,000 per person, entire course). Non-euro prices are converted at the ECB rate.

Can I study cooking in Italy for 3 months?

Yes. Several culinary schools run programmes of two to six months, often combining classes with a restaurant internship. Stays over 90 days need a study visa if you are not an EU citizen.

Are restaurant internships in Italy paid?

Usually not; internships after a culinary course are training placements, sometimes with meals or lodging provided. The course notes say what the school states.
