What to check before you book
The details that make two courses at the same price very different. Every course card shows them where the school publishes them.
A cooking week
- Price per day, not per trip: a 6-night and a 4-night week are not the same deal.
- Single room: travelling alone often costs a few hundred more.
- Count the hands-on classes, the dinners and the excursions that are included.
- Airport transfers: country schools can be an hour or more from the airport.
Two to four weeks
- Whether lodging and meals are in the price, or tuition only.
- Teaching hours per week: intensive courses run 25 to 40.
- Start dates: many courses run on fixed dates a few times a year.
- Italian lessons: some schools sell language and cooking together.
A month or longer
- The 90-day Schengen limit: longer stays need a study visa, applied for before you travel.
- Whether a restaurant internship follows the classes, and if it is paid.
- The total: tuition plus lodging, food and travel for the whole stay.
- What the certificate says at the end, and who issues it.
A career course
- Hours of practice, not days: compare total hands-on hours.
- What the certificate says, and who issues it.
- Whether the price includes Italian VAT (22%).
- Teaching language: some courses are in Italian with English on set dates.

Questions about cooking schools in Italy
How much does a cooking school in Italy cost?
In Italy, the first country we cover, published prices for a cooking week run from €350 to €8,499 per person, two to four weeks from €580, longer than a month from €5,000, and career courses from €500. Every figure comes from a school website and is dated.
Do you list short cooking classes?
No. Cookweeks lists courses of about a week (5 days or 4 nights) or longer, because that is where comparing price, lodging and hours makes a real difference. For a single class on your trip, booking sites and the schools themselves list plenty.
Can I learn to cook in Italy for a month or longer?
Yes. Culinary schools run intensive courses of two to four weeks or more for international students, some with lodging and a restaurant internship. Stays over 90 days in the Schengen area need a study visa if you are not an EU citizen. See the long-stay page for prices and what is included.
Do I book through Cookweeks?
No. Each course links to the school’s own page and you book with the school. For courses of a week or longer you can also send us your dates and budget; we reply by email with courses that fit and can ask the schools for you.
What is Cookweeks?
An independent comparison of cooking schools in Italy with courses that last a week or longer. We list 54 schools and 88 courses in Italy with the price, length, group size and what is included, copied from each school’s own page with the date we read it. No school pays to be listed.
Which countries will you cover next?
Italy is first. Thailand (Chiang Mai and Bangkok) is next, then France, Japan, Spain and Mexico. Country pages appear only once we have checked school prices there.
